Guest Policy

GENERAL PROVISIONS

The security and safety of the SIGNALS Museum’s guests, volunteers, employees, and exhibits are of the highest importance. SIGNALS Museum has adopted and will enforce rules and regulations that are necessary and appropriate to provide a safe and secure environment.

SIGNALS Museum may amend, modify, or withdraw any rules and regulations at any time. As a private institution, SIGNALS Museum may exercise the foregoing rights at any time without notice and without explanation.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

ACCESS TO SIGNALS MUSEUM EXHIBITS

The guest admission is good for one (1) general admission to the exhibits. When purchasing admission(s) from SIGNALS Museum, the guest understands and agrees to the following:

The admission(s) is/are valid only for the number of person(s) and the date at the time of purchase.

The admission(s) is/are not transferrable and cannot be used by anyone other than the original purchaser(s).

The admission(s) price will not be refunded or exchanged.

ACCESS TO OTHER PARTS OF THE MUSEUM

Access to administrative facilities or other restricted areas is limited to only authorized SIGNALS Museum staff and volunteers. Access to educational classrooms and event space is restricted to guests registered for programs or events. SIGNALS Museum reserves the right to limit access to any of its public facilities and guest areas and the length of time guests can spend on its property. SIGNALS Museum reserves the right to close any or all its public spaces because of severe weather or other causes, as needed, and without advanced notice. In the event of circumstances that require an early closing of the museum, a non-cash voucher will be granted to guests.

PERSONAL ITEMS

SIGNALS Museum guests may leave umbrellas at the front entrance. Any item left must be retrieved no later than fifteen (15) minutes prior to the closing of the museum. Unattended bags or belongings found anywhere on the Signals Museum property will be subject to search and removal by SIGNALS Museum staff. SIGNALS Museum is not responsible for unattended bags or belongings. Unclaimed items will be subject to disposal at the discretion of SIGNALS Museum.

 

PUBLIC RESTROOM ACCESS

Access to public restrooms inside SIGNALS Museum is intended only for SIGNALS Museum visitors.

Restroom access for non- SIGNALS Museum visitors in extenuating situations may be granted at the sole discretion of SIGNALS s Museum staff. In such cases, the guest must enter through the main public entrance and may use the restroom area located behind the lobby.

RE-ENTRY INTO SIGNALS MUSEUM

Guests are welcome to leave the museum and re-enter for any reason within the same day of their visit. Tickets are not transferrable and cannot be used by anyone other than the original purchaser(s).

CONFORMITY WITH MUSEUM SIGNAGE

While on SIGNALS Museum property, guests shall comply with all posted signs and regulations.

INTERFERING WITH SIGNALS MUSEUM STAFF FUNCTIONS

Violating the directive of or preventing the execution of duties by SIGNALS Museum staff in any capacity is prohibited.

Threatening, resisting, intimidating, or intentionally interfering with SIGNALS Museum staff is prohibited.

Failure to obey a directive to leave SIGNALS Museum property, or to re-enter SIGNALS Museum property after being removed, is prohibited and could result in engagement of local law enforcement services.

REPORT OF INJURY OR DAMAGE

All persons suffering bodily injury on SIGNALS Museum property, or having knowledge of damage to SIGNALS Museum property, are required to report the occurrence(s) to SIGNALS Museum staff immediately following the incident. Providing a false report to SIGNALS Museum staff is prohibited.

PROHIBITED BEHAVIOR AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Dismissal from SIGNALS Museum facilities may be warranted upon SIGNALS Museum staff’s determination that a guest has engaged in disorderly or prohibited conduct. Disorderly conduct may include, but is not limited to, any of the following prohibited acts by guests occurring anywhere on SIGNALS Museum property:

  1. Any conduct or behavior deemed inappropriate by SIGNALS Museum staff

  2. SIGNALS Museum does not permit any unauthorized individual or group of individuals to gather, conduct, or sell paid tours inside of the museum.

  3. Making noise that is unreasonable, or behaving in a way that is inappropriate (loud, offensive, abusive, or otherwise improper language or performing or engaging in obscene or indecent acts)

  4. Engaging in fighting, violent, or threatening behavior

  5. Indecent exposure, sexual acts, or related behavior

  6. Engaging in commercial activities, soliciting, leafleting, hand billing, and/or vending

  7. Loitering or sleeping (including at the front of the building)

  8. For safety and health reasons, appropriate attire and shoes must be worn at all times.

  9. Obstructing the use of public areas such as entrances, lobbies, walkways, or roadways

  10. Throwing items at buildings or persons

  11. Interfering with or obstructing authorized vehicular traffic

  12. Impeding or threatening the security of persons or property

  13. Tampering with, damaging, and/or removing any SIGNALS Museum property including, but not limited to, exhibits, interactive displays, and artifacts

  14. Willfully defacing, destroying, damaging, or removing SIGNALS Museum property

  15. Smoking (including e-cigarettes and vapors) is prohibited inside SIGNALS Museum and within twenty-five (25) feet of museum entrances. “Smoking” includes the use of any tobacco products, including tobacco chew and vapor devices, electronic smoking devices, and e-cigarettes containing nicotine cartridges.

  16. Use of lighters, matches, and candles

  17. Demonstrations, protests, or rallies (or display and/or carry placards, signs, banners, barriers, or balloons)

  18. Littering

  19. Eating and/or drinking inside SIGNALS Museum except during catered events. Food and drink are allowed only in the event and serving areas during venue rentals. Food and drink are not allowed in the exhibit areas at any time.

  20. Use of tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks

SECURITY SCREENING AND PROHIBITED ITEMS

All guests and baggage are subject to security screening. Please consider leaving any prohibited or oversized items at home, or in a vehicle. Guests are prohibited from bringing the following items onto SIGNALS Museum Property:

  1. Any item deemed inappropriate by SIGNALS Museum staff and/or any items specifically prohibited to possess as per law in Huntsville, Alabama

  2. Marking instruments including spray paint, liquid paint, glass cutters and/or other items that could be used to mark, dye/color, scratch, gouge or otherwise deface property by mechanical or chemical means

  3. Hazardous materials of any kind

  4. Weapons and tools including open carry of firearms, realistic replicas of firearms (to include toy guns), ammunition, stun guns, and large cutting devices

  5. Disabling chemicals, including mace, pepper spray, tear gas, chlorine, liquid bleach, or compressed gasses

  6. Explosives, including fireworks

  7. Noise making or amplification devices, including but not limited to, radios, bull horns, and musical instruments

  8. Alcoholic beverages

  9. Controlled substances or narcotics which use is strictly prohibited by governmental regulation

  10. Powdered substances, liquid soaps and bubbles

  11. Glass bottles

  12. Placards, signs, posters, banners, barriers, balloons, rope, wire of any kind, tape or any device used to attach or hang posters onto any structure

  13. Animals/Pets (Except for service animals)

  14. Chewing Gum

  15. Food and/or drink

  16. Wagons, bicycles, skateboards, or recreational scooters (baby strollers and wheelchairs are allowed)

  17. Coolers of any size

  18. Any flags on poles or sticks that cannot be stored in a backpack

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEOGRAPHY, AND AUDIO RECORDINGS

SIGNALS Museum Staff reserve the right to refuse access and/or photo, video, or audio recording rights to any guest or group, at anytime, anywhere on SIGNALS Museum Property.

Any guests on SIGNALS Museum Property, including members of the news media, must respect all other guests, and must also realize that not all guests wish to be photographed, videotaped, recorded, or bothered in any other manner.

SIGNALS Museum uses visitor photos in various marketing and promotional materials that include, but are not limited to: print materials, websites, blogs, video-sharing sites, and social media.

The following are prohibited on SIGNALS Museum property, unless otherwise authorized:

  1. Taking photographs, videos, and/or audio recordings for advertising or commercial purposes, that includes, but is not limited to, publishing, selling, reproducing, transferring, distributing, or otherwise commercially exploiting the recorded media in any manner whatsoever

  2. Using tripods and/or professional camera and/or audio recording equipment

  3. Professional camera and/or audio recording equipment unless authorized by SIGNALS Museum staff.

 

Inside SIGNALS Museum, personal photos, video, and/or audio recordings are permitted for only private, noncommercial use, and in all cases so long as the activity does not impede pedestrian traffic. The use of flash is prohibited in all SIGNALS Museum areas.

ANIMALS AND PETS ACCESS

Guest’s animals and pets are not allowed on, or inside, SIGNALS Museum property (except for service animals).

SANITATION AND REFUSE

All guests on SIGNALS Museum property must dispose of personal refuse and items for recycling in only designated receptacles. Removing objects from trash receptacles is prohibited.

SIGNALS MUSEUM ARTIFACTS AND EXHIBITIONS

Touching any artifact or exhibition item inside SIGNALS Museum is prohibited, unless posted as an interactive display, or expressly authorized by SIGNALS Museum staff. Rough handling of any interactive display is prohibited. Parents with children are asked to restrain their children from touching exhibit artifacts, unless authorized by SIGNALS Museum staff, and restrain them from rough handling of interactive displays. It is illegal to deface, damage, mutilate, or destroy SIGNALS Museum property, artifacts, exhibits, or equipment including altering or tampering with interactive displays.

WILLFUL VIOLATION

Any person who violates any provision of the SIGNALS Museum Guest Policy is subject to dismissal from SIGNALS Museum property. In such cases where warranted, local law enforcement will be contacted for assistance and criminal charges may be filed.

SIGNALS Museum reserves the right to refuse or revoke and/or deny admission without refund for non-compliance with applicable rules and regulations of the SIGNALS Museum Guest Policy or for other inappropriate conduct.

EMERGENCIES

To report an emergency or suspicious item or activity, immediately inform the nearest SIGNALS Museum staff member.
